Truck buyers across the country have been eagerly anticipating the new 2016 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. With all the new features and great looks, it is no wonder the Tacoma is one of the most eagerly awaited additions to the Toyota truck line. Since its introduction, the Tacoma has quickly become one of the hottest selling trucks in its class. Earning this reputation has been no easy task as the competition is fierce, but with the release of the 2016 Tacoma, Toyota has once again raised the bar.
Best in Class Body Design
A recent interview conducted with Michael Sweers, Toyota Chief Engineer, revealed that with this new design Toyota has put a lot of focus on creating a new aerodynamic design. He stated, “We focused on reducing the drag coefficient of the truck and making it as aerodynamic as possible – which isn’t easy to do when you have a vehicle that sits so high off the ground. But we managed to do it. As a result, it has the lowest coefficient of drag of any truck in its segment. And it did help improve fuel economy.”
Mr. Sweers went on to say, “So our approach and departure angles are still the best in class for both the standard and off-road models. Our brake-over angle overall is 29 degrees , with a figure of 21 degrees in front and 31 degrees in back, both best in class figures.” Sweers went on to explain that the reason behind the newly designed bumper and overall design of the front end, is that+ these changes are necessary in order to meet the new pedestrian impact safety standards that will soon be coming into effect.
More Fuel Efficient than Ever
With the ever increasing cost of fuel becoming a major concern among the majority of buyers in the U.S., the new 2016 Toyota Tacoma will be more fuel efficient than ever. Mr. Sweers was not willing to state categorically that the new Tacoma V6 model is going to have the best fuel economy in its class. This is simply because the EPA has not released its report, however the V6 being installed in the Tacoma is unique to this truck and may well have better fuel economy than the GMC Canyon or Chevrolet Colorado with their 3.6 liter V6.
Toyota has built the Tacoma around a 3.5 liter Atkinson-cycle V6 that has already been proven to be significantly more fuel efficient. On top of this, the Tacoma will come with your choice of two new transmissions. You will be able to choose between either a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox. Both of these options have been carefully chosen by Toyota to provide maximum load hauling capacity and fuel economy.
Technology and More
With the release of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma buyers will find it comes loaded with a wealth of the latest technology. Not only will buyers get the all-new 3.5L V6, it will come with a host of highly popular features. Among these are a full-color 4.2 information display, keyless entry, and the latest in projector beam headlights.
For those who step up to the Tacoma TRD Sport, you can expect the latest in Qi wireless charging for your smartphones. These models will also come with the SmartKey® system featuring push button start. Along with this there are options such as a power moon roof, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert systems.
