From Beginning to Present
Driving through the streets of Denton, Lewisville, and Frisco, TX many citizens are able to identify their favorite Toyota vehicles. However, what most people do not know is the outstanding history of Toyota, and shockingly enough, how Toyota history did not begin with the thought of cars in mind at first. Toyota history began in 1930 with Kiichiro Toyoda, the brilliant son of Sakichi Toyoda, who followed his father’s footsteps in wanting to efficiently produce high quality products.
The Beginning
Unlike his son, Sakichi Toyoda did not care to produce vehicles. In 1924 Sakichi Toyoda invented Toyoda’s Model G Automatic Loom. This invention was a revolutionary item not just for the textile industry, but soon to be the automotive industry as well. The Model G Automatic Loom was a new and improved loom able to switch shutters and function on its own; without needing the assistance of various workers. It created amazing products in half the time it would have taken through manual labor. In 1929 Sakichi sold the patent to his invention to a British company. A year later Sakichi’s son, Kiichiro Toyoda, began to do research on small-gasoline powered engines. Intrigued by his work Kiichiro began Toyota History by establishing the Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. in 1937. Kiichiro admired his father’s work and applied it to his own. The Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. applied a chain conveyor, similar to the Loom’s, in order to make an efficient assembly line. With this incorporation, even to today, Toyota is able to mass produce high quality vehicles. In 1950 the company faced a financial crisis and as a result the Toyota Motor Sales Co. Ltd was established. Both companies soon began to do so well that they combined in a merger to create Toyota Motor Corporation, a well-known name on the streets of Denton, Lewisville, and Frisco, TX today.
First Successful Car Models
In 1936 Toyota’s first ever vehicle was completed, the AA Sedan. Later that same year, Toyota announced two more vehicles- the AB Phaeton and GA truck. Toyota also had its first export with the G1 truck. Toyota was heading off on the right foot. In 1955 the Toyopet Master and Crown deluxe were launched and in 1957 the first prototype of the crown were exported to the U.S. This established Toyota Motor Sales in the U.S.A. The Crown editions became the most common vehicles on the road from anywhere in the world, including Denton, Lewisville, and Frisco, TX.
In 1961the Toyota Publica was announced and at the same time so was the Publica dealerships (better known now as Toyota Corolla dealerships). In 1947 there were 100,000th vehicles produced domestically, but with the rapid production and constantly evolving vehicles those numbers soon changed. In 1962 there were about 1 million vehicles produced domestically, and the numbers only continued to increase. By 1969 cumulative exports reached 1 million units! The Toyota Company was rising higher and higher.
In 1965 Toyota received the Deming prize for major advances in quality improvements. Soon after, in 1966, Toyota announced the Toyota Corolla. The one vehicle that will forever make a lasting impression on citizens in Denton, Lewisville, Frisco and all over the world. With all the new models and all the new drivers Toyota established the well-known Toyota Technical Center U.S.A Inc. in 1977 in order to become more efficient in assisting drivers.
Toyota History-Modern Era
With the modern era Toyota has certainly not slowed down. Toyota History indicates the company flying through the roof with achievements. In 1999 Toyota Motor Co. Ltd was listed on the prestigious New York and London Stock exchanges. In recent years, such as 2008, Toyota’s Prius reached worldwide sales topping the 1 million mark! In 2009 the hybrids reached their worldwide sales topping the 2 million mark. Even just now in 2013, the hybrids reached worldwide sales at 5 million units, the Prius at 3 million units, and the Corolla at 40 million units. Toyota has not taken a break from their amazing work.
In 2003 Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas, Inc. was established. This was highly beneficial to residents in and around Denton, Lewisville, and Frisco, TX. In 2006 Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America Inc. was also established. In 2010 Toyota developed an Advanced Energy Management System; however, in recent years Toyota has been enlisting the help of others in order to produce better products. For example, in 2011 Toyota and Microsoft forged a strategic partnership on next generation telematics. While Toyota is forming partnerships to create better products for their vehicles they are still hard at work with efficiently producing vehicles. History will be constantly evolving with the massive movements, productions, and alliances that are continuously occurring.
